    Progress in baby car seats?

Ok, so we have purchased a newborn car seat but had a few question:

*When will he/she grow out of the newborn car seat? It’s the average infant seat?
    Like this:http://graco-snugride-infant-car-seat.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/graco-snugride-32-infant-car-seat-zurich.jpg

*What is a good seat for a baby that has just grown out of it’s first?

*When are regular kid’s car seats okay? (Something like this: http://www.thetoptensite.com/images/car-seat-graco.jpg)

*When is a booster seat okay?

*When can they just sit in the car with no extra seat?

    Any other tips?

    Thanks!

      baby trend velocity jogger stroller?

I am planning to buy baby trend velocity jogger stroller to use with graco snugride infant seat. And then I noticed that it is recommended for six months or older babies. Can someone tell me if it is possible to use above setup for 2 months old? I don’t plan on doing any type of jogging and go for short stroll.

Is this stroller not recommended for any other reason than you shouldn’t take your infant on jogging?

      Question about car seat base?

My daughter has two car seats for her daughter. Right now the baby is in a Graco infant seat. I bought them an extra car seat base for her husbands car. When she gets a bit bigger she will be in a Evenflo carseat. My question is will this carseat fit on the Graco base? Or does she need a different base if she wants to have an extra one for her husbands car? Thanks.

Baby Car Seats Crash Test Information?

      Newborn and Baby
Consumer Reports Magazine Crash test worries

In its February 2007 issue, Consumer Reports magazine reported on crash tests it performed to test the safety of car seats. The results were not encouraging.

Most of the infant car seats tested by Consumer Reports "failed disastrously" in crashes at speeds as low as 56 km/h. The seats came off their bases or twisted in place, the report said. In one case, a test dummy was hurled more than nine metres.

Of the 12 car seats tested, Consumer Reports said it could recommend only two, and it urged a U.S. federal recall of the poorest performing seat, the Evenflo Discovery, which is not sold in Canada.

All the car seats passed U.S. standards — but Consumer Reports argues those standards should be raised.

To be sold in Canada and the United States, an infant seat must perform adequately in a 48 km/h frontal crash, and Consumer Reports found that all but the Discovery did so. But it noted that the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) conducts its crash tests for new cars at higher speeds — 56 km/h for frontal crashes and 61 km/h for side crashes — so the magazine tested the seats at those speeds.

"It’s unconscionable that infant seats, which are designed to protect the most vulnerable children, aren’t routinely tested the same as new cars," said Consumer Reports’ Don Mays, a product safety director.

The only seats that passed all the tests were the Baby Trend Flex-Loc and the Graco SnugRide with EPS — expanded polystyrene foam — both selling for about US. Consumer Reports urged parents shopping for seats to buy one of those two, but it also noted that "any child car seat is better than no seat at all."

It also said some seats performed better when attached by vehicle safety belts than when attached with the LATCH system. The system, which stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children, includes belts that hook the base of a car seat to metal anchors in the vehicle.

      Consumer Report Article
On January 4, 2007, Consumer Reports published a safety alert in the U.S. claiming that most infant car seats failed their new front- and side-crash evaluation tests. The report also claims that of 12 seats tested, only two performed well: the Baby Trend Flex-Loc and the Graco SnugRide with EPS (i.e., expanded polystyrene). Only six of the twelve infant car seat models chosen by Consumer Reports for this testing are officially certified for and marketed in Canada. They are: the Graco SnugRide; the Peg-Perego Primo Viaggio SIP; the Evenflo Embrace V; the Graco SafeSeat; the Safety 1st Designer 22; and the Combi Centre ST.
Transport Canada wants to reassure the Canadian travelling public that the Department’s collision investigations and data analyses do not support the results obtained by Consumer Reports. When car seats are used correctly, they perform effectively in motor vehicle collisions and child occupants are afforded optimum protection.

The Department takes the safety of children travelling in vehicles very seriously and is continually working to improve crash protection for children through research, development and enforcement of safety regulations, participation in various national and international committees that work on policy development, and public awareness campaigns.

How long can I possibly use a graco infant safe seat???

I want get a graco infant safe seat… I know that they can hold a baby until its 30 lbs and 32 inches, but can I keep the baby in there longer?? If so then how long?? Also is there any other infant seat the holds until 30 lbs??
      Thank u!!!
I didn’t mean that I was gonna keep a baby in it till they we’re 4!!! I meant it as let’s say the baby hadn’t reaches the weight limit but was 32inches could the baby still use it or he was 30lbs but not 32 inches can he still safely use it?? And I don’t plan to carry him around when he’s goin on 30lbs but I’d still use in the car!
Basically I mean do u switch baby when they meet one requirement or wait until they meet both the height and weight limits??? And for the people who keep suggesting craigslist, ur not supposed to used 2nd hand carseats!! I was asking for safety reasons not to "save" money!!

How did you fit 3 across the back seat?

Has anyone fit 3 kids across the back seat of a mid-sized sedan? We have one in a booster seat, one in a convertible car seat and a baby on the way. I’m trying to figure out how we can fit all three across the back seat. I’m looking at smaller car seats than the Evenflo Triumph we currently have. Our infant seat is a Graco Snugride and the booster is the Graco Turbo booster. I appreciate any help or personal stories you have to offer!

      graco infant seat base?

I know that you don’t need to use a base in order to use the infant seat in a car, but I’m curious if all the graco bases are the same. Are they all compatible with any of the graco seats? We’re flying out to visit my in laws about 8 weeks after the baby is born, and we have friends where they live that have a graco base they don’t use. We were wondering if it’d work with our seat? Is it safer to use the base than just buckle the seat in?

Which carseat should I purchase after my baby has outgrown her infant seat?

My almost 9-month-old baby weighs around 17 lbs. and is starting to look uncomfortable in her Graco Snug Ride infant seat. I know she must stay in a rear-facing seat until she is 20 lbs. and 1 year old.

So should I buy a new convertable car seat now, or should I wait until she is a year old and 20 lbs. and just buy a front-facing car seat?

Also…which car seat is the safest? Or, where can I find such information?
